Learn English with Nani/ Listening
Outline:
In order to learn a second or foreign language,
learners have got four skills to master. Listening, speaking, reading, and
writing. These skills are of two kinds; receptive skills and productive skills which are listening , and reading and speaking, and writing respectively.
A.
Listening:
Learners of English often tend to give more
emphasis on speaking than other skills because it is all about communication
and practicing the oral language. That would not happen without working on the
listening skill; some would ask why? Here I came with the answer for you,
listening and speaking have a mutual relationship of cause and effect, i.e., the
more you listen makes you better speaker.
Some would ask: how can I practice listening
well?
Listening resources are fairly available on the
net, however, as a pre-intermediate and intermediate learner you should listen
to sorts of records over others. Since you have been already exposed to English
before, you will not find a problem to get your ear accustomed to the language.
a.
As a language learner, it is
good to follow youtube channels like that of BBC learning English and English
with Lucy, English Vid.com and try to not watch for YouTubers using Arabic
because this may cause another problem for you like mother tongue domination over
the target language and mother tongue interference.
b.
You can as well practice
listening to increase the amount of vocabulary at your disposal through Graded
readers novels where you enjoy the stories authors tell and get to know more
vocabularies. Audible is a profit-platform that helps you listen to podcasts
created by native speakers reading books.
c.
The time you devote to
listening to the English language has a great impact on you, the more time you
dedicate to listening makes better results on the ways you pronounce words and
articulate sounds. Do not bother yourself with the issue of accents, even
though you'd like to sound like a British or American native speaker it is good
to listen to a variety of accents. Another idea for listening is to listen only
for native speakers of English because there is what is called collocations,
collocations are chunks of words often go together for example in English we
say fast food and not quick food. Down below you will find a
group of collocations used in the English language.
